I have officially submitted my application to run for Position 7 on the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees. I believe Alvin ISD is a strong district; however the recent school boundary/rezoning process demonstrated to me that all communities served by Alvin ISD need representation on the board. With two children that are currently students in the district (and a third joining them soon), I have a vested interest in the success of our schools.
As a board member, my first priority will be the quality of education and well being of every student in our district.
I believe that the membership of the board should be reflective of the student population that the district serves. While being a voice for all students, I will be able to offer a perspective that is currently lacking.
Additionally, my experience in the private sector will allow me to offer fresh ideas to help navigate the challenges of the rapid growth of the student population in our district. Additionally, I will work diligently to make sure that our communities’ tax dollars are spent responsibly.
Election Day is November 3, 2020 and early voting begins October 13th! I would be honored to garner your support in our efforts to put our students first!
Sincerely,
Floyd Hodges
Candidate for Alvin ISD School Board
If elected, I pledge to be genuine, honest, transparent and to represent the Alvin ISD community with integrity. Here are a few items that will be very high on my agenda:
Students should have access to the same programs with the same quality regardless of their campus
Students have the right to feel safe when they’re at school. Every student should know bullying will not be tolerated and feel confident when he/she speaks up his/ her voice has been heard, and the district will protect him/her from retaliation.
It is important for parents to have a full understanding of the metrics used by the state to grade the performance of the district’s member schools. I will strive to create workshops to help parents understand how the schools are graded.
I will work to establish member districts to ensure each of the Alvin ISD member communities have representation on the board.
My wife Jamie and I have been residents in Brazoria County since 2013. We have three children, two of which are students in Alvin ISD (4th and 3rd grade), and a third who will soon follow.
While my kids are at school, I am employed as the engineering manager for a large engineering and construction firm in the Houston area. I’ve worked in this industry for more than 12 years and hold professional engineering licenses in eight states in addition to my Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Mississippi State University.
I’ve always had a passion for working with educators and early in my career, I had the privilege to serve as a technology facilitator for South Pike School District in Magnolia, MS. In this role, I was responsible for working with district leaders to help teachers integrate the use of technology in their classrooms.
I get great fulfillment from participating in my children’s education and jump at every opportunity volunteer at their schools, whether it’s chaperoning field trips, serving with WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students), coaching Seaperch (robotics), attending PTO meetings or attending at school-sponsored events.
I am also an active member of my church and have served in worship ministry for more than 20 years.
Your support and contributions will enable us to spread the word about our campaign!
